Soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo (40) is reportedly close to agreeing on a contract renewal with his current club, Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr, worth approximately 300 billion KRW in annual salary.
On the 14th (Korean time), local media such as Spain's Marca and Portugal's A Bola reported that a one-year contract extension agreement between Ronaldo and Al Nassr is imminent. Ronaldo's contract with Al Nassr was set to expire in June. Although there were initial rumors of a return to Europe, foreign media predicted, "Ronaldo will earn an annual income of 200 million euros (about 300 billion KRW) through the contract renewal."
Upon completion of the renewal, Ronaldo's weekly salary will reach 3.8 million euros (about 5.7 billion KRW), which means he earns approximately 550,000 euros (about 800 million KRW) per day by simple calculation. Ronaldo is famous for being the highest-paid soccer player.
Al Nassr's extraordinary offer appears to be because Ronaldo is a representative figure of Saudi football. Foreign media stated, "Saudi Arabia is making massive investments in football, including securing the hosting rights for the 2034 FIFA World Cup," and added, "This Ronaldo contract renewal once again demonstrates Saudi Arabia's determination to attract major figures in the sports world to the country."
Meanwhile, Ronaldo, born in 1985, is a Portuguese forward. Starting with Portugal's Sporting CP, he has played for prestigious clubs such as England's Manchester United, Spain's Real Madrid, and Italy's Juventus before joining Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr in January 2023. Even after playing only the latter half of his first season with Al Nassr, Ronaldo appeared in 16 matches, scoring 14 goals and providing 2 assists, showing outstanding performance.
