Jeju Air will pay 30 million KRW to the families of the victims of the passenger plane disaster at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do as consolation money and funeral expenses, separate from the compensation.

On the 14th, Kim I-bae, CEO of Jeju Air, stated at the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee plenary session held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, "We plan to provide a separate consolation payment of 30 million KRW to the families based on the victims."

In response to a question from Maeng Seong-gyu, chairman of the Land Committee (Democratic Party lawmaker), asking, "According to commercial law, if the victim requests, an advance payment must be made. Is the 30 million KRW an advance payment or consolation money?" Kim replied, "It is unrelated to insurance money."

On the same day, Representative Maeng pointed out to CEO Kim, "If the airline is at fault, additional payments can be made through lawsuits beyond the legally mandated compensation."

Regarding this, CEO Kim said, "If the bereaved families feel the compensation is insufficient, they may file a lawsuit, but we will do our best to prevent such situations," adding, "We are negotiating with the insurance company to ensure the compensation is sufficient."

Meanwhile, Park Sang-woo, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "As of the 10th, we have provided emergency living expenses of 3 million KRW to each bereaved family." Minister Park added, "The government is raising funds through the Community Chest of Korea for urgent living support for the families, aiming to collect donations by the end of this month," and said, "Since it takes time to gather the funds by the end of the month, we have initially distributed the money that has already been collected."
