'Gwangjin Rebirth Year' Proclaimed... Gwangjin-gu Holds 2025 New Year's Meeting

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held the ‘2025 Gwangjin-gu New Year Meeting’ on the 14th at the Gwangjin-gu Office auditorium to welcome the Year of the Blue Snake.

This event was an opportunity to present the district’s vision for significant change and growth, inspired by the energy of the blue snake symbolizing wisdom, abundance, and transformation.

The New Year meeting was successfully held with the attendance of over 500 residents, including key figures from various sectors such as members of the National Assembly and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent.

Starting at 1:30 PM with a receiving line by Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, the program included a congratulatory performance by the Gwangjin-gu Women’s Choir, viewing of a New Year’s wish video, guest speeches, New Year’s address and major business reports, followed by a rice cake cutting ceremony.

Under the slogan ‘Gwangjin Shines Brighter with Integrity in 2025,’ the video featuring New Year’s wishes included 15 residents sharing their hopes for Gwangjin-gu, such as ‘revitalization of traditional markets,’ ‘expansion of youth policies,’ and ‘support for daycare centers and senior citizen centers.’

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho reported on major achievements made together with residents, including ▲a six-day-a-week household waste collection system ▲completion of the 2040 Gwangjin Re-creation Plan ▲and the regulation of 92 street vendor locations around Gangbyeon Station and Guui Station.

He also declared this year as the ‘First Year of Gwangjin Re-creation,’ presenting the district’s vision and goals across six areas: ▲balanced development ▲mutual welfare ▲economic vitality ▲culture and education ▲safety and environment ▲and open communication.

The event concluded with a rice cake cutting ceremony and commemorative photo session celebrating the start of 2025, marking a time of communication with residents.

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, “I thank all the residents and guests who attended this meaningful event to report Gwangjin’s administrative goals and blueprint for the Year of the Blue Snake. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Gwangjin-gu’s establishment and the ‘First Year of Gwangjin Re-creation.’ Based on the solid development foundation built over the past two and a half years, we will strive to make visible changes that residents can feel.” He added, “We will continue to communicate in various ways and create a happier, more developed Gwangjin.”

Meanwhile, last year the district made every effort to achieve ‘Happy Gwangjin through Communication and Development.’ Notable accomplishments included receiving the highest grade for two consecutive years in the public institution integrity evaluation, winning the Presidential Award for Children’s Safety, the Grand Prize for Health and Age-Friendly City Policies, and the Communication Award for two consecutive years in the Youth-Friendly Governance Awards.
