Hong Seongpyo, the chairman of the Asan City Council in Chungnam, who caused controversy due to drunken misconduct at his alma mater's graduation ceremony, submitted his resignation to the council secretariat on the 14th.
On the 10th, he appeared intoxicated at his alma mater's graduation ceremony and caused a scene by arguing with parents and behaving inappropriately.
Regarding this incident, he posted an apology on his social media on the 13th, stating, "I sincerely apologize for causing discomfort to many people," and added, "By attending in an inappropriate state, I caused concern to faculty, parents, and graduates."
The Chungnam Provincial Party of the People Power Party released a statement on the afternoon of the 14th, saying, "Chairman Hong has caused a scandal and is isolating himself to avoid the situation without specific comments or a sufficient apology," and pointed out, "Democratic Party council members should demand his voluntary resignation and directly refer him to the Special Ethics Committee."
Meanwhile, the city council referred Chairman Hong to the Special Ethics Committee on the same day, but the number of supporting council members has not yet been confirmed.
