Suspected Violation of the Aquaculture Industry Development Act
The Wando Maritime Police Station in South Jeolla Province is currently investigating a man in his 40s who was apprehended on suspicion of illegally installing a laver farm.
On the 14th, the Wando Maritime Police Station announced that it had arrested Mr. A as a suspect for violating the Aquaculture Industry Development Act by installing a laver farm without a license.
According to the Wando Maritime Police, Mr. A is suspected of setting up and operating 15 rows of laver poles without authorization in a protected maritime area near Yeoncho-do, Haenam-gun, outside the designated permit zone. Unlicensed or unauthorized aquaculture is punishable by up to three years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million won under the Aquaculture Industry Development Act.

An official from the maritime police stated, "The installation of unlicensed aquaculture farms poses a significant risk to maritime safety and causes considerable damage to legally operating aquaculture businesses," adding, "We will continue to conduct ongoing crackdowns and management to eradicate illegal activities."
