People Power Party Chungnam Provincial Party Urges Hong Seongpyo, Asan City Council Chair, to Resign Over Drunken Misconduct Chairman Hong Seongpyo delivering a congratulatory speech while intoxicated.

The Chungnam Provincial Party of the People Power Party on the 14th called for the immediate resignation of Hong Seongpyo, the chairman of Asan City Council, who recently caused a drunken disturbance at his alma mater's graduation ceremony.

In a statement released that day, the People Power Party said, "Chairman Hong, while intoxicated, made incoherent congratulatory remarks and mocked parents who protested his behavior," adding, "He has caused a scandal, yet is now hiding away, trying to get through this moment without any specific explanation or sufficient apology."

The statement continued, "As someone who should serve as a social role model in his position as chairman, he has brought great disappointment and anger to the citizens who elected him," and emphasized, "Democratic Party council members should demand Hong's voluntary resignation and directly refer him to the Special Ethics Committee."

Previously, on the 10th, Chairman Hong appeared intoxicated at his alma mater's graduation ceremony and caused a scene, including arguing with parents.

In relation to this, late on the 13th, he posted an apology on his social media, saying, "I sincerely apologize for causing discomfort to many people," and "By attending in an inappropriate state, I caused concern to faculty, parents, and graduates."

Meanwhile, city council members belonging to the People Power Party have already signed a petition to convene the Special Ethics Committee regarding Chairman Hong, and it is reported that Democratic Party council members are also discussing whether to agree to this action.
