Yeongyang County, Gyeongbuk Province (Governor O Do-chang) is hosting the "2nd Yeongyang Kkongkkong Winter Festival" from the 3rd to the 19th at the Hyun-ri Ice Rink in Yeongyang-eup, jointly organized by Yeongyang County and the Yeongyang County Sports Council. Despite the cold weather, the festival is bustling with crowds.
The Hyun-ri Ice Rink has maintained an ice thickness of over 25 cm daily, allowing the "Kkongkkong Winter Festival" to proceed safely.
Following the successful hosting of last year's "1st Yeongyang Kkongkkong Winter Festival," Yeongyang County is holding the second festival this year, increasing the height of the snow sledding hill from 3 meters to 6 meters, expanding the size of the ice rink, and adding various food options, efforts that have earned high praise far surpassing last year's first festival.
On the 10th day of the festival, 20,000 tourists visited, and over 10,000 tourists visited just last weekend as word of mouth began to spread.
It is recommended to warmly conclude this winter at the "2nd Yeongyang Kkongkkong Winter Festival," which ends this weekend.
Yeongyang County plans to develop the "Kkongkkong Winter Festival" into a representative winter festival of Yeongyang County and, further, of Gyeongbuk Province.
