"Reducing Call Taxi Wait Times for the Transportation-Vulnerable"
Mokpo City, Jeonnam (Mayor Park Hongryul) is recruiting additional voucher taxi operators until the 24th.
According to the city on the 14th, since January 2023, Mokpo has been implementing the voucher taxi system through agreements with general taxi operators. The voucher taxi was introduced to assist the transportation of non-wheelchair transportation-vulnerable groups (people with disabilities, seniors aged 65 and over, and pregnant women). It aims to enhance the mobility of people with severe disabilities, reduce waiting times, and improve customer satisfaction.
By recruiting six additional voucher taxi operators, a total of 20 voucher taxis will be operated exclusively within Mokpo. As a result, the number of out-of-city trips by the Haengbok (Disability) Call Taxi is expected to increase, laying the foundation for broader transportation for the transportation-vulnerable.
The qualifications for voucher taxi operators are as follows: under the age of 70, at least one year of accident-free driving experience, business registered in Mokpo City, at least one year of experience driving a personal (corporate) taxi, and resident registration in Mokpo City. Applications will be accepted until the 24th, and only in-person submissions at the City Hall Transportation Administration Division are allowed.
A city official stated, "With the increase in the number of voucher taxis, we expect that the convenience of mobility will be further improved as non-wheelchair transportation-vulnerable groups, who account for more than 60% of those with mobility difficulties, and users of the Haengbok (Disability) Call Taxi will be better distributed."
