The protagonist of the story is Casey Colvin, a resident of Palisades. Colvin was out when the evacuation order was issued on the first day of the fire. Worried about her two dogs, 'Oreo' and 'Tikatikatika,' who were at home, she struggled to return to her house. Colvin asked a firefighter on the scene to rescue the dogs, and the firefighter brought back Tikatikatika. However, Oreo seemed frightened by the fire and ran out of the house, disappearing.
A few hours later, Colvin's house was reduced to ashes by the fire. She spent the following days searching for Oreo in the surrounding area. During this time, NBC News correspondent Liz Kreutz shared Colvin's story on social media, drawing attention. There were reports that Oreo was sleeping in the neighbor’s debris or wandering the neighborhood streets. Colvin also enlisted the help of professional dog trackers. Eventually, on the 12th, five days after Oreo went missing, Colvin had a dramatic reunion with her dog. She received a tip that Oreo was seen among the debris and rushed to the location where Oreo was found.

Colvin and Oreo faced each other across the front door of a house. Holding Tikatikatika, Colvin called out to Oreo, who wagged her tail vigorously as if happy to hear her owner’s voice and ran over. Colvin hugged Oreo and repeatedly exclaimed, "You were alive," shedding tears of relief. She ran around holding Oreo, cheering and shouting, "Thank God."
Kreutz filmed the reunion between Colvin and Oreo and shared the video on her social media. The video has been viewed over 4.5 million times on social media. Overseas netizens who saw the video responded with comments such as, "I’ve been waiting for this news. So glad Oreo is reunited with the family," "A tear-jerking video," and "Really happy. Wishing them happiness."
Meanwhile, as the damage from the LA wildfire continues to spread uncontrollably, animals including pets are also suffering. According to foreign media reports, local animal shelters and rescue organizations are helping animals injured or displaced by the fire. The Pasadena Humane Society in Pasadena has taken in about 400 animals over the past four days. The LA Equestrian Center in Burbank is also caring for about 400 animals, including horses and donkeys. These animals were either left by owners who evacuated due to fire warnings or were found by police running around frightened by the flames.
