Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Provides Consulting and Support
for Resident Communities through the Tourism Dure Program
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization announced on the 14th that they have selected five local governments as new project sites for the Tourism Dure program. These are Yeoju-si in Gyeonggi, Taebaek-si in Gangwon, Dangjin-si in Chungnam, Jeongeup-si in Jeonbuk, and Hamyang-gun in Gyeongnam.
Tourism Dure is a project that helps residents solve local tourism issues on their own. By dispatching Tourism Dure PDs, it supports the establishment and operation of tourism businesses with unique local characteristics in areas such as accommodation, food and beverage, travel, and experiences. From 2013 to last year, 953 resident businesses were discovered and nurtured, contributing to the revitalization of local tourism. This year, 31 local governments applied for the project.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism provides Tourism Dure PDs with activity expenses and capacity-building education for up to five years. For the discovered resident communities, it supports startup education and consulting, pilot projects, and market development. Kim Geun-ho, Director of Tourism Industry Policy, said, "We will continuously support the spread of the region's special and diverse tourism content to tourists, enhancing the appeal of local tourism."
