Posted a Job Ad on a Secondhand Trading App to Lure Victim
Took Her to a Pension in Gapyeong and Confined Her
Attempted to Flee After Realizing the Crime Was Reported
A man who kidnapped and confined a woman after posting a job advertisement claiming to be looking for a caregiver for his paralyzed younger sister was arrested.
The Gapyeong Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 13th that they had arrested and were investigating a man in his 20s, identified as A, on charges of kidnapping and confinement. A is accused of picking up a woman in her 30s, B, from Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, around 7 p.m. on the 9th, placing her in his vehicle, and taking her to a pension in Daeseong-ri, Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, where he confined her for about two days.
Two days later, an acquaintance of A suspected the crime and reported it to 112. The police tracked A’s escape route, locating the vehicle and the pension. Upon realizing the report, A attempted to flee with B in the car but was caught in the act by the police around 5:10 a.m. on the 11th. B was rescued from the passenger seat of the vehicle and was reported to have no injuries. A weapon was found inside the car.
A lured B by posting on a secondhand trading app that he was looking for a caregiver for his paralyzed younger sister. However, A does not have a paralyzed younger sister and was living in Seoul without any particular occupation. The police obtained an arrest warrant from the court and are investigating the specific motive and details of the crime.
