Chinese Man in His 20s Arrested After Wrong-Way Driving Accident in Ulsan
A man in his 20s from China was arrested by the police after stealing a foreign car in Ulsan and causing a wrong-way driving accident that injured more than 10 people.
The Ulsan Southern Police Station announced on the 13th that they have apprehended and are investigating a Chinese man in his 20s on charges including theft, after he stole someone else's car and caused a wrong-way driving accident that injured over 10 people.
The Chinese suspect, Mr. A, is believed to have stolen a foreign SUV that was parked with the engine running in front of a convenience store in Mugeo-dong, Nam-gu, around 9 a.m. that day. At the time, the vehicle’s owner had briefly left to buy something, and the spouse was reportedly seated in the passenger seat.
While fleeing in the stolen vehicle, Mr. A drove about 2 km on a one-way 3-lane road in the wrong direction and collided with two cars in succession. The impact caused the vehicle Mr. A was driving to overturn, and another vehicle traveling on the road collided with Mr. A’s overturned car again. As a result of the accident, 12 people, including Mr. A, were injured and transported to the hospital.
Investigations revealed that Mr. A was neither under the influence of alcohol or drugs nor an illegal immigrant. However, during police questioning, Mr. A reportedly stated that he is undergoing treatment for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
The police are investigating the detailed circumstances of the accident and the motive behind the crime with Mr. A and others involved.
