Rambling While Intoxicated...
School Official States, "There Were Complaints from Parents"
A post claiming that the graduation ceremony was ruined due to Chairman Hong Seongpyo has been uploaded on the Danggeun Market neighborhood incident board.
Hong Seongpyo, the chairman of the Asan City Council in South Chungcheong Province from the Democratic Party, caused discomfort among onlookers by behaving inappropriately at his alma mater’s graduation ceremony on the 10th.
On this day, Hong appeared at the 50th graduation ceremony of Asan High School in the afternoon while intoxicated and got into arguments with parents and others.
According to reports, he arrived late at the venue around 2:55 p.m. while under the influence of alcohol and shouted in a coercive tone, "All students, stand up."
He then began a lengthy speech unrelated to the graduation ceremony, and when parents protested, saying, "We wish you would stop," he continued his congratulatory address, saying, "I can't hear what you're saying from the back."
Hong's speech only stopped after a request from a school official, and after stepping down from the podium, he sat down and fell asleep.
A school official commented, "The congratulatory speech was much longer than expected, and there were complaints from parents," but declined to elaborate further.
Regarding the incident, a city council member who requested anonymity pointed out, "When Hong entered, it seemed like he smelled of alcohol, so I advised him to restrain himself, but he did not."
On the local incident board of Danggeun Market, there were also criticisms such as, "Several parents couldn't stand it and left the ceremony," and "He ruined a once-in-a-lifetime graduation ceremony for the juniors."
Attempts were made to contact Hong for his response, but he could not be reached.
