Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok, who also serves as Minister of Strategy and Finance, stated on the 13th, "The inauguration of the new U.S. administration is just a week away, and it will have a significant impact on our economy through the rapid implementation of policies."
On the same day, Acting President Choi held a meeting on external economic issues at the Government Seoul Office with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Chief Negotiator for Trade, where he made these remarks.
He added, "Even after the new U.S. administration takes office, we will do our best to ensure that economic cooperation between Korea and the U.S. remains strong, based on the solid fundamentals of the Korean economy."
Acting President Choi urged, "Please prepare response measures through close cooperation between the government, businesses, and economic organizations, and actively communicate and consult with the National Assembly."
This was the second external economic issues meeting chaired by Acting President Choi since the one held on the 6th. Ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump's inauguration on the 20th (local time), he plans to hold weekly Monday meetings to share information related to the new U.S. administration's launch and discuss responses to trade issues.
