Introduction of Microsoft Azure Cloud
Second adoption following Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2023
K Bank is collaborating with Microsoft to realize a 'Tech Leading Bank.'
On the 13th, K Bank announced that it has introduced Microsoft Azure cloud to its channel system, establishing the first multi-cloud system in the banking sector. This is the second cloud adoption following the application of Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud to the channel system in 2023.
The channel system is one of the bank's banking systems responsible for all transactions conducted through applications (apps), such as app access, inquiries, transfers, and product subscriptions. Since internet banks form customer contact points exclusively through apps, the channel system is extremely important, and efficient operation of the channel system is essential to provide stable banking services.
To this end, K Bank has built a multi-cloud system using both AWS and Microsoft Azure clouds. Multi-cloud refers to a system that simultaneously uses clouds provided by multiple companies. Utilizing various clouds together offers excellent efficiency and stability.
Since each cloud provider has different strengths, using multiple clouds allows combining and leveraging each advantage, and traffic is distributed rather than concentrated on a single cloud, enabling efficient operation.
Additionally, quick response is possible in case of failures, enhancing service stability. Even if a failure occurs in one cloud provider, the system can operate without interruption by utilizing another cloud.
With the establishment of the multi-cloud system, K Bank is expected to provide more stable banking services by efficiently operating the channel system.
Furthermore, the multi-cloud system will be directly managed by in-house departments through technology internalization. Generally, cloud management services are outsourced to cloud management service providers (MSPs), but K Bank’s highly skilled in-house experts will manage the cloud without MSPs.
A K Bank official stated, "Following Amazon, we collaborated with Microsoft to introduce the first multi-cloud system in the banking sector. Going forward, we will operate the existing IDC main center and two clouds in a triple-redundant manner to provide more efficient and stable banking services."
