Seongdong-gu '2025 Changes in Policies'?... Fixed 500,000 KRW Support for Postpartum Care Expenses

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) is introducing the ‘2025 Changing Systems’ that will bring positive changes to residents’ daily lives in the new year.

A total of 27 policies across four areas?living & economy, welfare & health, transportation & safety, and culture & sports?will be expanded or improved. These various projects and benefits, covering all age groups from pregnancy and childbirth to elderly care, are expected to add happiness and convenience to the daily lives of district residents.

Living & Economy

Public restrooms will be transformed into eco-friendly clean restrooms that are sterile (無菌), odorless (無臭), and insect-free (無蟲). To this end, UV sterilizers, insect traps, sterilizing air curtains, water-saving faucets, and solar power facilities will be installed in 20 public restrooms. When using public restrooms, any inconveniences requiring inspection or maintenance can be reported and managed using QR codes, enabling smarter civil complaint handling.

To prevent pipe freezing during winter, the ‘Safe Seongdong Home’ support project will also be promoted. Residents can apply at their local community service center to receive insulation finishing for vulnerable areas such as water meters and pipes, as well as thawing measures for boiler water supply and frozen water pipes.

Welfare & Health

From this year, the eligibility for universal postpartum care cost support will be relaxed from residing in Seongdong-gu for more than 6 months to more than 3 months. Accordingly, if either parent has lived in Seongdong-gu for at least 3 months as of the newborn’s birth date, they can receive a fixed postpartum care cost support of 500,000 KRW.

Support for infertility treatment costs will be expanded from 25 treatments per couple to 25 treatments per childbirth, including medical expenses for discontinuation of infertility treatments such as for empty follicles or immature eggs. Fertility testing costs will be supported for both men and women of reproductive age (25?49 years). Women can receive up to 130,000 KRW for ovarian function tests and gynecological ultrasounds, and men can receive up to 50,000 KRW for semen analysis.

The voucher application period for maternal and newborn health care services has been extended from 40 days before the expected delivery date to 30 days after delivery, to up to 60 days after delivery. The voucher validity period has also been extended from within 60 days after delivery to within 90 days. The voucher expiration period has been improved from 180 days after delivery or 60 days after the expected delivery date to 2 years after delivery.

The Seongdong-type housework care support service for pregnant women will be expanded from 4 hours per day and 7 uses to 7 uses for single pregnancies and 10 uses for multiple pregnancies. Seongdong-gu’s Toy World will be integrated across all branches, allowing borrowing and returning from anywhere starting in March.

Additionally, the criteria for customized livelihood and housing benefits have been relaxed, and the upper limit for rent support has been increased, enabling more residents to receive livelihood, housing benefits, and rent support. The basic pension support amount has also been raised, which is expected to further contribute to the stable retirement life of the elderly.

The full-scale operation of the ‘Sageun Smart Healthcare Center,’ which provides integrated customized muscle strengthening exercises, nutrition management, and mental healing to help residents enjoy a healthy old age in their own homes, is also notable.

Transportation & Safety

The regular allocation waiting score system for public and resident parking lots will be improved from the first half of this year, eliminating the deduction of waiting scores based on months of use. The resident-priority parking designation application, which was valid until the assigned person gave up the spot, will be changed to a one-year term starting this year. The parking lot refund application system will also be improved to be completed within one minute.

Culture & Sports

Outdoor sports facilities such as Salgot-i and Eungbong Sports Park, which previously required reservations at least 3 days before the usage date, will be improved to allow immediate on-site reservations. Refunds will be possible not only through bank transfers but also through card payment cancellations.

Details of the changing systems in Seongdong-gu can be found on the Seongdong-gu Office website (Open Seongdong - Seongdong News).

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “We expect the ‘2025 Changing Systems’ to bring positive changes to the daily lives of our residents,” adding, “We will make meticulous efforts so that all residents can have an even happier year living in a better Seongdong.”
