Kremlin Spokesperson Welcomes Trump’s Willingness for Dialogue
“No Preconditions Needed, Only Political Will”
Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States, revealed that he is coordinating a meeting with Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, and the Kremlin also responded by welcoming the willingness to engage in dialogue.
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, said at a briefing on the 10th (local time), “We welcome the fact that President-elect Trump is ready to resolve issues through dialogue,” according to TASS news agency.
He added, “No conditions are necessary. What is needed is a mutual desire and political will to resolve issues through dialogue.”
He continued, “President Putin has repeatedly stated that he is open to contact with international leaders, including U.S. presidents such as Trump.”
The day before, President-elect Trump said at a meeting with Republican governors at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, “He (Putin) wants to meet, and we are preparing for that (meeting).” President Putin also said on the 19th of last month that he is ready to meet with President-elect Trump at any time.
If the two leaders meet, they are expected to discuss peace plans for Ukraine, but President-elect Trump did not mention any specific schedule. Spokesperson Peskov also said there are no concrete details about the meeting yet and that there will likely be developments after President-elect Trump’s inauguration on the 20th.
