Accident Name Unified at the Request of Bereaved Families
Bereaved Families' General Meeting to Be Held Privately

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 10th that the official name of the passenger plane accident that occurred at Jeonnam Muan International Airport has been decided as the '12·29 Jeju Air Passenger Plane Disaster' in consultation with the bereaved families.

At a regular briefing held at Muan International Airport on the same day, Shin Gwang-ho, Director General of the Ministry of Land, said, "There are concerns raised by the local community as the incorrect name 'Muan Airport Disaster' is being used by some," and emphasized, "It should be called by the accurate name, '12·29 Jeju Air Passenger Plane Disaster.'"


Park Han-shin, representative of the 12·29 Jeju Air Passenger Plane Disaster Family Council, who attended the briefing, also said, "The name used to refer to the accident varies from person to person," and requested, "We hope the name agreed upon with the Ministry of Land will be used uniformly."


As of the 13th day since the accident, a total of 38 bodies have been recovered at the site. Among them, 23 bodies have been handed over to the bereaved families. The remaining 3 bodies are scheduled to be handed over the next day, and according to the families' requests, 12 bodies will be handled through a joint funeral procedure. A total of 110 shelters have been set up on the second floor of the Muan International Airport terminal for the bereaved families, with 27 currently in use.


Meanwhile, Director General Shin Gwang-ho said regarding the family meeting scheduled at the airport on the 11th, "Since the meeting is held privately, some bereaved families feel burdened by filming," and asked, "Please cooperate considering their position." He also added, "We plan to continue providing various support such as distributing guidebooks and counseling assistance to the bereaved families who have completed the funeral procedures."
