Kim Dong-yeon "Human Rights Commission guarantees defense rights for rebellion ringleader... It's outrageous"

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon expressed outrage on the 10th, criticizing the National Human Rights Commission for remaining silent on the declaration of martial law while urgently submitting a proposal to guarantee the defense rights of the leader of the rebellion.

In a post on his social media (SNS) that day, Governor Kim said, "(The National Human Rights Commission) has degenerated into a 'Committee for the Defense of the Leader of the Rebellion,'" and condemned, "They remain silent on the declaration of martial law that destroyed the constitutional order and restricted the basic rights of the people, but now they say they will urgently submit a proposal to guarantee the defense rights of the leader of the rebellion. This is outrageous."

He went on to urge, "Withdraw the proposal immediately, and Chairman Ahn Chang-ho must resign at once."

Earlier, the National Human Rights Commission submitted the agenda item titled "Recommendations for Overcoming the National Crisis Caused by the Declaration of Martial Law" to the first plenary committee meeting of 2025 scheduled for the 13th. The proposal was jointly initiated by five commissioners: Kim Yong-won, Han Seok-hoon, Kim Jong-min, Lee Han-byeol, and Kang Jeong-hye.

The specific contents of the proposal include recommendations to withdraw the impeachment motion against Prime Minister Han Deok-soo so that he can serve as acting president, to prevent the abuse of impeachment motions against public officials in the future, and to ensure thorough protection of defense rights in the Constitutional Court's impeachment trial against President Yoon Seok-youl.
