Calls for Rapid Execution and Protection of Vulnerable Groups
On the 10th, Pohang City held its first expanded executive meeting of the new year at the Pohang Steel Industrial Complex Management Corporation site, pledging to unite efforts comprehensively to overcome the crisis facing the region's key industries.

During the meeting, participants shared the crisis situations of the steel industry, struggling due to the influx of low-priced steel products from China and a downturn in the domestic economy, as well as the secondary battery industry, which has been severely impacted by the global chasm, exchanging various opinions to seek solutions.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok emphasized that if the region's key industries such as steel and secondary batteries fail to escape the crisis, the future of the region could also be shaken, calling it an urgent and critical situation. He urged that all capabilities be mobilized with a sense of mission to take responsibility for Pohang's future and wisely overcome the crisis.
He also stated that amid expanding internal and external uncertainties, this year must be devoted to protecting the economy and people's livelihoods, requesting efforts in ▲rapid budget execution ▲protection of vulnerable groups ▲expansion of orders to local companies ▲revitalization of neighborhood markets.
In particular, with the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday designated as a temporary public holiday, extending the holiday period, he asked for measures to maximize tourist inflow by linking tourism products, strengthening promotion of major tourist attractions, and preparing events to drive regional economic revitalization.
Furthermore, expressing concern over the recent sharp increase in influenza patients, he urged active promotion of mask-wearing and prompt vaccination encouragement for the unvaccinated to protect the health of high-risk groups.
Additionally, at the first expanded executive meeting of the new year, key project plans for each department were shared. Administrative efforts will focus on laying the urban foundation for a sustainable East Sea-centered city and expanding the base of advanced knowledge industries to secure new growth engines.
Jeon Ik-hyun, Director of the Steel Management Corporation, who attended the meeting, expressed gratitude for holding the first expanded executive meeting on-site, saying, “If we all unite and strive to overcome the region’s crisis industries, we will surely overcome and develop further.”
Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “Starting the new year’s first executive meeting at the Steel Management Corporation embodies the will of all public officials to overcome the regional industrial crisis,” adding, “Let us work together with one heart, looking toward Pohang’s future and its citizens, and strive for the sustainable development of Pohang.”
