The Math Genius from 'Youngjae Balguldan' Who Solved Calculus at Age 6, Here's What They're Doing at 11 Now At the age of 6, Lee Jung-woo (11), a "math genius" who attracted great attention by solving not only advanced high school math but also industrial mathematics problems from MIT, appeared on the SBS program "Youngjae Balguldan" at age 6.

Lee Jung-woo (11), a "math genius" who appeared on SBS's 'Youngjae Discovery Team' and caused a huge sensation by solving advanced math problems such as calculus equations, cubic equations, and even industrial mathematics problems from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at the age of 6, has confessed that he "no longer feels interested in math."

On the 6th, Lee Jung-woo revealed this through the community section of his YouTube channel 'Lee Jung-woo's Math Lectures,' saying, "I am gradually getting absorbed into the internet world, staying up late, and my life is getting worse and worse."

He opened up by saying, "I have something to say. I want to say this because I think there might be some preconceived notions about me," and added, "I hope people don't think that I am extremely good at math."

He continued, "Actually, since I was 5 years old, for some reason, I have hardly progressed and whenever I face a problem, I just keep trying to avoid it," and confessed, "Now, I don't really feel interested in math anymore." He also lamented, "I feel pathetic seeing that my phone usage time is recorded as 9 hours a day. Still, the fact that I can't quit makes me feel even more miserable."

Lee Jung-woo said that although he once tried hard at both studying and exercising, several unfortunate events overlapped, leading him to his worst state. He said, "Please try to understand if I sometimes behave in ways that don't make sense. By that time, I will probably no longer be normal," and promised, "I am sorry for breaking down. I am sorry for not living up to expectations. Someday, I will return to normal."

Netizens who learned about Lee Jung-woo's recent situation expressed concern. They left comments such as, "It seems like he got confused after getting absorbed in online communities. His parents should intervene," "I'm really worried. Maybe he should switch to a 2G phone," "He says he will no longer be normal. What is going on?" "Maybe the pressure was too much. It's heartbreaking," and "How did this happen to a math genius?"

Lee Jung-woo first gained public attention by appearing on 'Youngjae Discovery Team' in 2019. On the show, he demonstrated his skills in advanced math such as calculus and cubic equations, and even showed his own concept called 'minus factorial,' which he developed after encountering the factorial function generally defined only for natural numbers. His overall IQ revealed on the show was 142, placing him in the top 0.3%.

In 2020, he appeared on KBS's new media YouTube channel 'KLAB' and competed in solving past college entrance exam problems against a student from Seoul National University's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. At that time, Lee Jung-woo attracted great attention by deriving the answer to a problem that even the Seoul National University student gave up on midway.
