Applications for Annual Automobile Tax Prepayment Now Open

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam Province will accept applications for the 2025 automobile tax annual prepayment from the 16th to the 31st of this month to provide taxpayers with tax-saving benefits.

The automobile tax annual prepayment system allows taxpayers to pay the automobile tax, which is usually paid twice a year in June and December, in advance in a single payment, and receive a deduction on a portion of the annual automobile tax amount according to a certain deduction rate.

Applications can be made in January, March, June, and September, with deduction rates of 4.6%, 3.8%, 2.5%, and 1.3% respectively, decreasing over time. Therefore, it is advantageous for taxpayers to apply in January when the tax-saving effect is greatest.

If the vehicle is transferred or scrapped after the automobile tax has been prepaid, the automobile tax for the period after the previous registration date or cancellation date will be refunded, and even if the taxpayer moves their address to another city or county, the automobile tax will not be charged again.

Applications for annual prepayment can be made via Wetax (internet or mobile), by phone, or in person at each district office’s tax department or the eup/myeon/dong administrative welfare centers. For vehicles that were prepaid last year, taxpayers can receive a tax-deducted bill in January without a separate application.
