On the 10th, Jeju Police Agency announced that they have detained and are investigating a Chinese tourist, Mr. A, on charges of violating the Aviation Safety Act. Mr. A is suspected of flying an unauthorized drone about 2 km outside the runway of Jeju Airport on the afternoon of the 31st of last month to film the airport.

The police, together with the National Intelligence Service and Korea Airports Corporation, are investigating Mr. A for any signs of terrorism or anti-aircraft suspicions. The area within a 9.3 km radius of Jeju Airport, classified as a 'Ga-grade' national security facility, is a no-fly zone for drones. Last year, suspected drone objects were also detected at Jeju Airport, causing flight operations to be suspended and inconveniencing airport users.
