Chungnam Province announced on the 10th that a highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI, H5 type) antigen was detected at a broiler breeder farm in Dangjin. A total of 35,000 broiler breeders are scheduled to be culled.

According to the Provincial Animal Hygiene Laboratory, after receiving a report of increased mortality at the farm on the 9th, a detailed inspection was conducted and the H5 antigen was confirmed around 11 p.m. The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency is currently verifying whether it is highly pathogenic.

To prevent the spread of AI, the province urgently dispatched an initial quarantine team and five disinfection vehicles to the farm, and designated a 10-kilometer radius around the reported farm as a quarantine zone, where detailed inspections are being carried out on 12 poultry farms.

A 24-hour standstill order was issued from 1 a.m. on the 10th to 1 a.m. on the 11th for chicken farms, related livestock facilities, and livestock vehicles in 15 cities and counties within the province, as well as in Pyeongtaek and Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.

This winter, there have been 21 cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks at farms nationwide: 6 in Jeonbuk, 4 in Gyeonggi, 3 in Chungbuk, 2 in Chungnam, 2 in Jeonnam, 1 in Gangwon, 1 in Gyeongbuk, 1 in Incheon, and 1 in Sejong.
