Choi Sang-mok, Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister as well as Minister of Economy and Finance, spoke with UN Secretary-General Ant?nio Guterres on the 10th to discuss Korea-UN cooperation and other matters.
Acting President Choi expressed gratitude for the Secretary-General's condolences to the victims' families regarding the Muan Jeju Air passenger plane accident and conveyed his commitment to stable national governance and management of foreign relations.
Referring to the 80th anniversary of the UN's founding this year, Acting President Choi emphasized that "Korea will continue to contribute to international peace and prosperity through active participation as a member of the UN Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, and the Human Rights Council."
Secretary-General Guterres stated, "I have full confidence in the strength and resilience of Korea's democratic institutions." He also welcomed Korea's election to major UN bodies as a demonstration of the international community's trust in Korea and expressed expectations for Korea's continued role in restoring UN-centered multilateralism and strengthening the UN.
