30-Year Usage Fee for Residents Reduced from 410,000 to 270,000 Won
Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) has significantly reduced the usage fees for the ‘House of Remembrance,’ which is operated for residents and local workers, starting this month.
From this year, the usage fee for residents and their spouses has been lowered from 410,000 KRW to 270,000 KRW, allowing use for an initial 20 years at 200,000 KRW and a 10-year extension at 70,000 KRW. For direct ascendants and descendants of residents, as well as employees working at businesses located in Gangnam-gu and their direct ascendants and descendants, the fee has been reduced from 510,000 KRW to 370,000 KRW, with an initial 20-year period costing 300,000 KRW and a 10-year extension at 70,000 KRW.
Recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security Act benefits, low-income groups, national veterans, and other eligible discount recipients have seen their fees decrease from 110,000 KRW to 70,000 KRW, with an initial 20-year period costing 50,000 KRW and a 10-year extension at 20,000 KRW. The annual maintenance fee remains the same at 36,000 KRW.
Starting this year, the initial enshrinement period has been extended from 15 years to 20 years, with the option to extend once more for 10 years.
The House of Remembrance is located within Yeeun Memorial Park at 936-61 Deokgeum-ro, Geumwang-eup, Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk Province, and operates 4,032 individual units and 1,216 couple units. It offers affordable costs compared to private facilities, allowing enshrinement for up to 30 years, and users can select and reserve their columbarium location in advance.
Without prior application, visitors can prepare the required documents such as cremation certificate, resident registration, and family relation certificate, visit the House of Remembrance, and apply for immediate enshrinement. For those who wish to make a reservation in advance, they can select the columbarium location on-site and then visit the District Office’s Senior Welfare Division to apply.
District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong stated, “We have reduced the usage fees so that families can honor their loved ones at a lower cost than private facilities,” and added, “We will strive to revitalize the Gangnam-gu House of Remembrance so that residents can comfortably and safely honor their beloved family members.”
