Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will operate the ‘Automobile Tax Annual Prepayment System,’ which allows taxpayers to reduce their tax amount by paying the entire annual automobile tax at the beginning of the year in 2025.

Automobile tax is a local tax paid twice a year in June and December. The district operates an ‘Annual Prepayment Reporting and Payment Period’ every January, during which taxpayers who pay the annual amount in a lump sum receive a 5% discount on the remaining period's tax amount.

The 2025 annual prepayment reporting and payment period is until January 31. To encourage prepayment, the district has sent a total of 102,123 annual tax payment notices.

A district official stated, “Last year, the January prepayment rate accounted for 43.7% of the total automobile tax amount in the district, showing a concentration at the beginning of the year. Since the deduction increases proportionally with the remaining period, paying in January offers the maximum tax-saving benefit of a 5% discount for 11 months.”

Prepayment is optional, so there is no disadvantage if you apply but fail to pay; you can pay during the regular June or December billing periods later. Even if you move your registered address to another region due to relocation, no follow-up action regarding automobile tax is required. If you change the vehicle ownership or scrap the vehicle, you can receive a refund for the tax corresponding to the period excluding the days of vehicle ownership.

You can apply for prepayment and report payment via ▲phone (Songpa-gu Tax Division 2) ▲internet (ETAX) ▲mobile app (STAX). However, for those who paid the previous year's annual tax, the 2025 automobile tax bill will be automatically sent with the discounted tax amount without a separate application, so you can pay immediately.
