Acting Minister of Justice Kim Seok-woo stated regarding the investigation authority over President Yoon Seok-yeol on charges of treason, "There is absolutely no room for debate that the police have (investigation authority)."
On the 9th, during an urgent question session at the National Assembly plenary meeting, Kim responded this way when Na Kyung-won of the People Power Party asked, "Isn't the investigation authority for presidential treason basically with the police?"
Kim added, "However, regarding whether the prosecution and the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) have such authority, the basic requirement of relevance must be met," and "Various reviews may be necessary on that point."
Regarding claims that the CIO is causing national division by possessing illegal investigation authority and obtaining illegal warrants, he drew a clear line, saying, "There has been no statement that the arrest warrant was illegal."
Kim further explained about the CIO filing the arrest warrant for President Yoon not at the Seoul Central District Court but at the Western District Court, "Basically, jurisdiction over trials and investigations coincide," and "Although it is not common, it seems difficult to say it violates the law. I understand the CIO made an appropriate judgment."
