The 'Natural Disaster Safety Diagnosis Evaluation' is a system introduced in 2007 under the 'Natural Disaster Countermeasures Act' to assess local governments' capabilities in responding to natural disasters. This year, based on the 2024 performance, a total of 33 quantitative indicators across three areas?risk factors, disaster management, and facility management?were evaluated for 228 cities, counties, and districts nationwide, and the results were announced in five grades (A to E).

Yeoju City received a 'D grade' in 2020, but since the inauguration of Mayor Lee Chung-woo in the 8th local government, who prioritizes proactive responses to natural disasters, the evaluation grade has improved by one level each year, achieving the highest grade, 'A grade,' for the first time this year, demonstrating the nation's top-level disaster response capabilities.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will provide incentive benefits for damage recovery costs in the event of natural disaster damage to local governments that achieve an 'A grade.' Yeoju City is expected to receive an additional 2% of national funding for recovery costs, which will be a significant help in promoting recovery projects in case of disaster damage.

Mayor Lee Chung-woo of Yeoju said, "The efforts made for the safety of citizens have led to this excellent evaluation result," and added, "We will not be complacent with this evaluation result and will strive even harder to strengthen disaster response capabilities that citizens can feel in 2025, creating a safer Yeoju City."
