Rear Parking Lot to Close on the 3rd of Next Month
Jeonju City in North Jeolla Province announced on the 9th that it will begin operating the 'Jeonju Station Front Temporary Parking Lot' starting from the 20th.
Since August last year, when the construction at Jeonju Station began in earnest, the city has restricted vehicle access to the plaza and closed the existing Jeonju Station parking lot. To minimize inconvenience for users, temporary parking lots have been operated at the former Nongshim site and at Jangjae Village behind Jeonju Station.
However, with the closure of the temporary parking lot at the former Nongshim site next to Jeonju Station, users of the rear parking lot have faced the inconvenience of having to walk more than five minutes to Jeonju Station after parking and crossing the overpass.
To address these inconveniences, the city, the Korea Rail Network Authority, and KORAIL have partially adjusted the construction schedule and have been establishing a temporary parking lot with a total of 154 spaces at the front of the station since October last year. The project is now in its final stages, with even the parking lane markings completed.
In the remaining period, the city plans to install a parking management system and conduct trial runs and pre-inspections to ensure that users can access the parking lot without inconvenience on the opening day.
Additionally, the city will actively promote the use of the front temporary parking lot through various media channels such as press releases, city newsletters, banners, and signboards, so that many citizens are informed and can make use of the facility.
Meanwhile, the rear temporary parking lot currently operating at Jangjae Village behind Jeonju Station is scheduled to cease operation from the 3rd of next month to allow for the construction of a parking tower.
Choi Junbeom, Director of the City Public Transportation Bureau, said, "Once the Jeonju Station Front Temporary Parking Lot is in use, we expect that parking and pick-up/drop-off inconveniences for Jeonju Station users will be somewhat alleviated. We will do our utmost to ensure smooth progress by closely cooperating with related organizations during the remaining period."
