The ceremony was attended by about 120 people, including Park Hyeong-deok, Mayor of Dongducheon, Kim Seung-ho, Chairperson of the City Council, city council members, Son Soon-wook, Head of the Northern Gyeonggi Veterans Office, heads of nine veterans organizations in Dongducheon, Korean War veterans, and Vietnam War veterans.

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs has been conducting the ‘Heroes in Uniform’ project to promote respect for uniformed personnel and the culture of honoring veterans, providing uniforms to 36,000 Korean War veterans and 175,000 Vietnam War veterans. This donning ceremony was held to honor the noble sacrifices of the veterans who devoted themselves to the country.

The event began with the introduction of guests, the national ceremony and singing of the national anthem, commemorative speeches by the President of the Vietnam War Veterans Association, the Mayor of Dongducheon, the Chairperson of the City Council, and the Head of the Northern Gyeonggi Veterans Office. This was followed by the screening of a patriotic video and the hero uniform donning ceremony by four representatives of the veterans. The second part of the event featured the ‘Longevity Happiness Photo Studio,’ a photo session for 100 veterans wearing the hero uniforms.

Jeong Sun-gil, Branch Chief of the Vietnam War Veterans Association, said, “I deeply thank the veterans who sacrificed for the country and honored today’s event with their courage,” adding, “I also thank Mayor Park Hyeong-deok for leading veterans’ policies such as the implementation of priority parking zones for national merit recipients.”

Park Hyeong-deok, Mayor of Dongducheon, said, “The freedom and peace we enjoy today are thanks to your sacrifices,” and added, “I am very proud to see you wearing the hero uniforms. Dongducheon City will remember the sacrifices of veterans and national merit recipients and do its best to honor and support them.”
