Hapcheon-gun Implements Safety Education for Senior Job Project to Ensure Stable Retirement Life

104 Billion KRW Invested, 2,409 Jobs Created

Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is set to fully implement the Senior Employment and Social Activity Support Project to provide various social activity opportunities for the elderly and support a stable retirement life.

Hapcheon-gun is an aging region where 45% of the total population is aged 65 or older. Through this project, the goal is to help economic independence and social participation while improving the quality of life for seniors.

In 2024, the number of seniors participating in employment increased by 292 from the previous year to 2,409, and the budget also rose by 1.5 billion KRW from 8.9 billion KRW to 10.4 billion KRW, enabling more elderly people to benefit. Notably, this year, Gyeongnam’s first senior capacity-utilization project, the ‘Senior Center Management Manager Project,’ was newly introduced, assigning personnel to manage cooking and meal distribution for lunch at 55 senior centers.

The senior employment project is carried out by Hapcheon Senior Club and two other institutions as well as townships to ensure professionalism and systematization. It operates through a total of 41 project groups, including the Senior Public Interest Activity Project (1,924 people) providing public sector jobs, the Senior Capacity Project (375 people) offering services at social welfare facilities, and the Community Business Group (110 people) for profit generation in the private sector.

Additionally, before the project begins, safety education and a launch ceremony will be held over five days from January 6 to 10 to raise awareness of activities among participating seniors, prevent winter safety accidents, and improve understanding of their duties.

County Governor Kim Yoon-cheol stated, “We expect to provide more seniors with income preservation opportunities through the expansion of public interest and capacity-utilization projects,” adding, “We will continue to create various jobs so that the experience and wisdom of the elderly can contribute to society.”
