20s Woman Assaulted While Sharing Table at Gwangju Bar

A man in his 20s was arrested for assaulting a woman who joined his drinking party in Gwangju because she refused to split the bill.

On the 8th, the Western Gwangju Police Station arrested a man in his 20s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of assaulting a woman he happened to be drinking with, causing her injury.

Mr. A is accused of repeatedly punching a woman in her 20s, Ms. B, at a commercial building in Chipyeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, around 7 a.m. on the 1st of last month, causing injuries requiring eight weeks of medical treatment. According to the police investigation, Mr. A proposed splitting the bill (Dutch pay) while drinking with Ms. B, whom he did not know, but when she refused, he committed the assault.

When police responded to a citizen's report, Mr. A fled the scene but was identified and apprehended based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage. Considering the risk of flight, the police applied for an arrest warrant, which was granted by the court.

The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident with Mr. A.
