Passing Through Dormancy to Become Premium Chamoe for Our Table

Finally, 'Seongju Chamoe' returns to our tables after a long dormant period.

Seongju-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, announced that Seongju Chamoe, which accounts for more than 75% of the national chamoe cultivation area and boasts the world's highest quality taste and aroma, was first shipped on the 8th.

Last year, Seongju Chamoe recorded an all-time high production income of 620 billion won, achieving over 600 billion won in production income for two consecutive years. This year, it has firmly established 600 billion won and started harvesting golden chamoe with the goal of early achievement of the 700 billion won era.

Seongju Chamoe is a premium fruit recognized both domestically and internationally and is a representative specialty product of Seongju-gun. This first shipment not only marks the official start of distribution but also raises expectations for a new leap in the chamoe industry.

This year's first shipment was made from the farm of Bae Seon-ho (56 years old) in Boam 2-ri, Wolhang-myeon. Despite the winter season, the unique sweet taste and crisp texture of Seongju Chamoe were fully felt, once again proving the quality of Seongju's premium chamoe.

In particular, this year, various events were held to widely promote the excellence of Seongju Chamoe, celebrate the joy of the first chamoe harvest, honor the hard work of farmers, and wish for the success of this year's chamoe farming.

Local singer Bae Geum-seong was appointed as the Seongju-gun Chamoe Ambassador, and a chamoe dedication ceremony praying earnestly for the achievement of 700 billion won in chamoe production income was held, creating a harmonious gathering where residents could come together.

Additionally, entertaining performances were provided by the Hanullim Pungmul troupe, Wolhang Elementary School students, Byeolgoeul Gwangdae, and local singers, and various foods such as rice cake soup, fish cake soup, and tofu were prepared, creating a festive atmosphere for the residents of Wolhang-myeon.

Lee Byung-hwan, the mayor of Seongju-gun, said, “It has only been two years since we entered the era of 600 billion won in chamoe production income, but now, with the improvement of chamoe cultivation technology and the expansion of smart farm farming methods, ushering in the IT farming era, the achievement of 700 billion won in chamoe production income is not far off. We will do our best to provide various policy supports for the 1 trillion won era in agricultural production income centered on the chamoe industry.”
