3rd to 19th, Hyeon-ri Ice Rink
The "2nd Yeongyang Kkongkkong Winter Festival," hosted by Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk, is being held from the 3rd to the 19th.
Yeongyang-gun's Kkongkkong Winter Festival is the county's second winter festival, expanded from the Yeongyang free ice rink that operated for 20 years since 1999.
The ice rink in Hyeon-ri, where the festival is held, is continuously exposed to valley winds, maintaining a consistent ice thickness regardless of temperature. Because the ice thickness is uniform, it boasts the best ice quality, making it the optimal location for a winter festival in the southern region of South Korea.
Especially this year, while many areas have canceled festivals due to insufficient ice formation, the Hyeon-ri ice rink has a thick, evenly formed ice layer over 30 cm, allowing the festival to proceed without disruption.
The Yeongyang Kkongkkong Ice Festival, held from January 3 to 19, 2025, offers various programs such as the ice rink, ice fishing spots, ice trains, and snow sledding, providing visitors with enjoyable activities. Additionally, a variety of foods, including fried icefish, are offered.
Also, the Yeongyang-gun Kkongkkong Ice Winter Festival attracts an average of 4,500 visitors on holidays since January 3, and over 10,000 tourists have visited so far.
A festival official stated, "We hope families can participate together in the Kkongkkong Ice Festival, enjoy the winter atmosphere, and create beautiful memories."
