Students, Parents, and Teachers Say "Helps Improve Academic Achievement"
The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education's pledged initiative, the 'Dedicated Basic Academic Skills Teacher System,' has been shown to increase satisfaction among students and parents through effective academic guidance.
According to the city office of education on the 8th, a satisfaction survey conducted in December last year targeting students, parents, and teachers from 30 schools operating the competitive Dedicated Basic Academic Skills Teacher System revealed an overall satisfaction rate of 98.3%. This figure marks an improvement compared to the 97.6% satisfaction rate in the first half of the year.
In particular, when asked whether the Dedicated Basic Academic Skills Teacher System contributed to improving students' basic academic skills, 97.3% responded positively, up 2.2% from 95.1% in the first half of last year.
Satisfaction with the proactive work of dedicated teachers also increased from 98.0% in the first half of last year to 99.2%. The consensus on the need to expand the system rose by more than 3%, from 93.0% in the previous survey to 96.7%, indicating a growing desire for expansion of the Dedicated Basic Academic Skills Teacher System in schools.
Respondents also cited major achievements such as customized basic academic skills improvement for students, the establishment of a 'prevention-diagnosis-guidance-management' system within schools, and proactive efforts related to basic academic skills. They emphasized the need for stable operational staffing and budget support.
A parent from Gyerim Elementary School, who stated that the program helped with their child's Korean literacy education, responded, "Thank you for giving my child the gift of eyes to see the world."
To publicize the achievements of this system, the city office of education published 'The Second Story of Dedicated Basic Academic Skills Teachers,' a collection of research case studies, in early December last year.
Superintendent Lee Jungseon stated, "The Dedicated Basic Academic Skills Teacher System plays an important role in closing learning gaps among students," and added, "We will work to expand the system and improve its quality so that more students can benefit."
