30s Sentenced to 1 Year 6 Months for Selling Drugs to Police Officer in Yongsan Apartment Fall Case

40-Hour Drug Addiction Treatment and 1.34 Million Won Fine Imposed

A man in his 30s who sold drugs to a police officer who died after falling while attending a drug gathering was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison.

On the 8th, Judge Kang Young-gi of the Criminal Division 9 at the Seoul Western District Court sentenced Moon (36), who was indicted for violating the Narcotics Control Act, to 1 year and 6 months in prison, ordered him to complete a 40-hour drug addiction treatment program, and imposed a fine of 1.34 million won.


Judge Kang stated, "Drug-related crimes cause great harm not only to individuals but also to society as a whole, making it necessary to eradicate them," and added, "Considering that the defendant went beyond using and possessing drugs to selling them, the nature of the crime is serious."


Moon was indicted on charges of selling 3 grams of ketamine to Sergeant A, who was affiliated with the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency, for about 720,000 won in June 2023. He is also accused of inhaling ketamine and ecstasy with two acquaintances in February of the same year. Sergeant A, who purchased and used the drugs, died after falling from an apartment in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on the morning of August 27, 2023.


The police found that about 20 people, including Sergeant A, held a drug gathering at the apartment in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, where attendees used various types of drugs, and launched an investigation. Lee (33) and Jung (47), who led this gathering, were each sentenced to 4 years and 6 months and 3 years and 6 months in prison by the Supreme Court last year.
