Seoul-based organizations excluded according to project purpose
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 8th that it has selected thirty-two local performing arts groups to participate in this year’s ‘Local Representative Arts Group Support Project.’ By category, there are eleven theater groups, nine traditional arts groups, eight classical/music groups, and four dance groups.
By region, nine groups were allocated to the Jeolla and Jeju areas, eight to the Gyeongsang area, seven to the Chungcheong area, five to the Gyeonggi and Incheon areas, and three to the Gangwon area. In line with the project’s purpose of supporting excellent performing arts groups based in local regions, groups located in Seoul were excluded.
Among the selected groups, the Daejeon Civic Choir and the Andong Municipal Performing Arts Group are newly established public arts organizations through this public contest. The Daejeon Civic Choir plans to provide various stage experience opportunities for young artists residing in Daejeon. The Andong Municipal Performing Arts Group intends to produce audience participation performances with fresh themes.
Additionally, Yeongwol HJ from Yeongwol County, Gangwon, Ungjin Cultural Association from Taean County, Chungnam, and Kim Hwasuk & Modern Dance Group Sapo from Namwon City, Jeonbuk, were also selected for support.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will invest 19.4 billion won to support the creation and production of their works. Follow-up support such as work critiques and performance promotion will also be provided.
Lee Jung-woo, Director of the Culture and Arts Policy Office at the Ministry, stated, “We will support local performing arts groups to invigorate the local arts scene and generate positive effects on the local economy.”
