Isis 8.0 to Expand Nitrogen Charging Technology
Lotte Chilsung Beverage announced on the 8th that it has started expanding the sales of its ultra-lightweight Icis, which was sold online, to offline channels such as large supermarkets from this month.
Ultra-lightweight Icis is a product by Lotte Chilsung Beverage that applied nitrogen charging technology to drinking water last October, reducing the container weight (based on 500ml) from the existing 11.6g to 9.4g. The liquid nitrogen charged inside the product changes into gas, creating internal pressure that maintains package stability, and it is easily crumpled to enhance convenience during recycling. Thanks to the effect of easy separation and disposal, ultra-lightweight Icis recorded cumulative sales of 1.34 million bottles within 80 days of its launch.
The nitrogen charging method is commonly used domestically and internationally to protect foods such as carbonated drinks, juices, coffee, and snacks. It is already applied and sold in bottled water products overseas in countries like the United States, Italy, Vietnam, and Thailand. Lotte Chilsung Beverage analyzed these overseas cases and judged that nitrogen charging technology is key, promoting research and development in earnest by collaborating with the Ministry of Environment on a pilot project for nitrogen-charged drinking water.
Currently, nitrogen charging technology is applied to the ultra-lightweight Icis 500ml product. Lotte Chilsung Beverage plans to expand the application of nitrogen charging technology to the Icis 8.0 product this year, aiming to reduce plastic use and activate the introduction of sustainable eco-friendly technology in the bottled water market. A Lotte Chilsung Beverage official said, "We expect nitrogen charging technology to respond to consumers' increased value-conscious consumption and promote innovation in eco-friendly technology."
