Installation of Fine Dust Smart Poles in Sinjeong Park for Concentrated Management Areas such as Pungdeokcheon 2-dong and Singal-dong
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 8th that it has installed fine dust reduction facilities at daycare centers, senior centers, and parks in Pungdeokcheon 2-dong, Suji-gu, and Singal-dong, Giheung-gu, areas designated as fine dust intensive management zones.
The city explained that the reduction facilities, which were previously installed mainly in public institutions such as administrative welfare centers, senior welfare centers, and elementary schools, have now been expanded to private daycare centers and senior centers.

The reduction facilities installed in senior centers and daycare centers are window-type ventilation purifiers. These devices automatically filter out fine dust, yellow dust coming from outside, and harmful substances inside without the need to open windows or ventilate separately when high concentrations of fine dust occur or when the air conditioner is operating.
The installation sites in Singal-dong, Giheung-gu include Sky Kids Daycare Center, Yegurina Daycare Center, Joeunnamu Kids Daycare Center, Galhyeon Village Hyundai Hometown Senior Center, Samik Apartment Senior Center, Sinyeok-dong Senior Center, Saecheon Green Ville 3rd Complex Senior Center, and Sinheungdeok Lotte Castle L City Senior Center. In Pungdeokcheon 2-dong, Suji-gu, 10 daycare centers and senior centers including Onnuri Daycare Center and Hyundai Changjo Daycare Center are targeted.
The city installed a 'Fine Dust Smart Pole (Traffic Light)' in Sinjeong Park, Pungdeokcheon 2-dong, Suji-gu. This device, which is 3.5 meters tall, provides real-time fine dust concentration information. The built-in light at the top allows the fine dust status to be checked from a distance. The color changes to blue when the fine dust level is 'Good,' green when 'Moderate,' yellow when 'Bad,' and red when 'Very Bad.'
Fine dust intensive management zones are designated by local governments in consultation with the Ministry of Environment under the Special Act on the Reduction and Management of Fine Dust, targeting areas densely populated with facilities used by children or the elderly. Once designated as an intensive management zone, fine dust concentrations are continuously monitored, and water spraying trucks are prioritized during high fine dust occurrences, among other measures according to the city's plan.
The city designated 1.47㎢ of Pungdeokcheon 2-dong, Suji-gu as a fine dust intensive management zone in November 2020, followed by 3.06㎢ of Singal-dong, Giheung-gu in August 2022, and 5.69㎢ of Baekam and Geunchang-ri, Baekam-myeon, Cheoin-gu in May 2023.
A city official said, "Since it is a season prone to high concentrations of fine dust, we installed reduction facilities in intensive management zones to ensure the safety of vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly. We will continue to install additional fine dust reduction facilities so that citizens can live comfortably."
