Gwanak-gu Secures 10 Billion Won for Education Expenses, Supports AI-Based Educational Environment 구축

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is making every effort to realize 'Excellent Education Gwanak' by expanding the education budget to 10 billion KRW for improving quality educational environments and nurturing future talents.

The district has steadily increased the education budget from 1.5 billion KRW in 2018 to 8 billion KRW in 2024 to improve quality educational environments and foster future talents.

This year, it secured 10 billion KRW, an increase of 2 billion KRW from last year, making it the fourth largest budget among the 25 autonomous districts in Seoul.

The district will support a total of 88 schools in the area this year with ▲1.06 billion KRW for building AI-based educational environments and new media libraries ▲3.71 billion KRW for customized education programs such as basic academic skills improvement, career exploration, and cultural and physical education programs ▲1.85 billion KRW for creating safe and healthy educational environments including support for commuting and in-school/out-of-school safety, suicide and school violence prevention, and psychological and emotional support ▲280 million KRW for special education support ▲400 million KRW for school playground opening support ▲and 60 million KRW for educational welfare projects.

In particular, this year the district newly established the 'Electronic Library Construction Support Fund' for building a digital education foundation targeting elementary schools and the 'Employment Support Program' to strengthen employment capabilities of students in specialized (vocational) high schools.

Additionally, the district plans to expand educational projects in various fields including ▲'Student Athletic Club Activity Support' for healthy and safe student sports activities ▲suicide and school violence prevention and psychological and emotional support ▲special education support for school life adaptation of students with special needs ▲and school playground opening support.

Since 2021, the district has been operating 'Gwanak Office Visiting Schools,' which has received great responses from schools and parents, to listen to opinions from school sites and reflect them in policies.

Last year, the Gwanak Office was operated at 32 schools, receiving and processing a total of 236 suggestions. Based on this, the district supported a total of 2.46 billion KRW for environment improvement projects related to student education and safety, such as school commuting route improvements and the establishment of indoor virtual sports rooms based on AR and VR.

This year, the district will continue to operate the Gwanak Office Visiting Schools to directly hear voices from school sites and establish education policies accordingly, realizing communicative and empathetic educational administration.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “We made every effort to secure an education budget of 10 billion KRW to support students, the future generation leaders, in receiving quality education,” and added, “We will continue to do our best in developing and supporting various educational programs to improve the educational environment and strengthen educational competitiveness in the region.”
