AI Service Disciplinary Action Against Daeryuk Aju, Appeal Filed with Ministry of Justice

On the 7th, law firm Daeryuk Aju announced that it has filed an objection with the Ministry of Justice regarding the disciplinary action taken by the Korean Bar Association (KBA) against its AI-based legal service.

Previously, in November of last year, the KBA held a disciplinary committee meeting and decided on disciplinary actions against Daeryuk Aju, five representative lawyers of the law firm, and one affiliated lawyer. According to the Attorney-at-Law Act, if one disagrees with the KBA disciplinary committee's decision, an objection can be filed with the Ministry of Justice's disciplinary committee within 30 days from the date of receiving the disciplinary notice. Daeryuk Aju received the notification from the KBA on the 9th of last month. The objection period ends on the 8th of this month.

If the Ministry of Justice's disciplinary committee accepts the objection, the KBA's disciplinary action will be canceled, and the Ministry of Justice's disciplinary committee will re-evaluate whether to impose disciplinary measures.

Daeryuk Aju officially launched "AI Daeryuk Aju," a 24-hour free service providing legal Q&A through online chat, in March of last year. The KBA pointed out that the advertisement phrase promoting "24-hour free consultation" violated the regulations on lawyer advertising.

Daeryuk Aju countered that it never made separate advertisements claiming the service was free. It emphasized that providing AI services itself does not imply free or unfairly low-priced content. Daeryuk Aju expressed regret in October of last year and suspended the service.
