A couple in China who staged domestic violence for views were ultimately detained by the public security authorities.

On the 6th (local time), Hong Kong media South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported, citing Chinese online news outlet The Paper, that the Kunming police in Yunnan Province imposed a 5-day administrative detention on the husband, Chai, and his wife, Li, for filming fake domestic violence videos that negatively impacted society.

Recently, a video titled "A woman trapped in a room by her husband, restricted in freedom and unable to eat" was posted on an online video platform. The video quickly spread online upon release, with many netizens sharing and commenting on it.

Chai reportedly confessed to the public security authorities that he was jealous of those who earned significant income through live streaming and staged this incident to increase his follower count. Investigations revealed that Chai and his wife wrote the script themselves and acted out the domestic violence scenario. The video produced by the couple shows the wife, exhausted from her husband's domestic violence, escaping from the house but being caught and locked in a small room. The wife is seen sitting in a shabby corner of the house, sobbing and curled up. The video also depicts the wife wrapped in a dirty blanket pleading for food, which the husband refuses.

Currently, the couple's account on the video platform has been deleted. According to China's public security punishment law, spreading rumors to deliberately disrupt social order can result in detention for up to 10 days and a fine of 500 yuan (approximately 100,000 KRW).
