Rookie Lawmakers of Four Opposition Parties: "44 People in People Power Party Who Obstructed Execution of Yoon's Arrest Warrant Should Resign"

On the 7th, first-term lawmakers from the four opposition parties, including the Democratic Party of Korea, demanded the resignation of the 44 People Power Party lawmakers who gathered at the presidential residence in Hannam-dong to prevent the execution of the arrest warrant issued against President Yoon Seok-yeol. The opposition first-term lawmakers warned, "The stance on the Special Investigation Act on the treason investigation will be a touchstone to determine whether one is a democratic party or an unconstitutional party."

First-term lawmakers from the Democratic Party, the Party for Justice and Innovation, the Progressive Party, and the Social Democratic Party held a press conference at the National Assembly Rotunda Hall that day. They pointed out that 44 People Power Party lawmakers went to the presidential residence the day before to block the execution of the arrest warrant against President Yoon, saying, "This is truly shameful. Are you really representatives elected by the people?"

They raised their voices, saying, "As a legitimate party, instead of cooperating to end the treason and stabilize the state affairs, they are protecting Yoon Seok-yeol with their whole bodies. Have they now decided to become accomplices to treason beyond mere collusion?"

The first-term lawmakers of the four opposition parties said, "What the people want now is to end the treason as soon as possible and stabilize the state affairs," adding, "The first step to correct this entire situation is to arrest the treason ringleader Yoon Seok-yeol." Regarding the gathering of lawmakers and others to block the execution of the arrest warrant, they condemned, "Such attempts to obstruct legitimate investigations to uphold the rule of law are acts that destroy the constitutional order and participate in treason, and betray the people who are shivering in the cold on the asphalt of Hannam-dong to protect democracy even now. This is a serious crime that is difficult to forgive even with immediate resignation."

They stated, "The People Power Party is no longer a legitimate party," and added, "It is an interest cartel colluding with treason forces for their own safety and a private faction of the treason ringleader Yoon Seok-yeol." They continued, "The re-vote on the Special Investigation Act is scheduled at tomorrow’s plenary session of the National Assembly," and said, "If you think the emergency martial law of December 3 is unconstitutional and illegal, it is common sense to pass the Special Investigation Act for the investigation."

They demanded the resignation of the 44 People Power Party lawmakers from their parliamentary seats, party positions, and the Special Committee on Treason Investigation, the dissolution of the People Power Party, and the arrest of those obstructing official duties.
