Wando County to Provide Public Benefit Allowance to Farmers and Fishermen

Wando County announced on the 7th that it is accepting applications for the 'Public Benefit Allowance for Farmers and Fishers' from eligible farmers and fishers.

The Public Benefit Allowance for Farmers and Fishers is a program designed to support the maintenance and enhancement of the public and multifunctional roles of agriculture, fisheries, and rural areas, and to create a sustainable agricultural and fisheries environment. Applications can be submitted in person at the local township office by the 7th, along with a completed application form and consent for the collection and use of personal information. Eligible applicants are those who registered their address in Wando County before January 1 of last year, have registered as agricultural, fisheries, or forestry business operators, and are actually engaged in these industries.

However, applicants must not have any record of business registration cancellation or transfer to another municipality during the relevant period. The following are excluded from eligibility: ▲those whose 'non-agricultural comprehensive income' in 2023 was 37 million KRW or more ▲those who have received subsidies such as direct payments fraudulently ▲public officials or employees of public institutions ▲those who have been penalized for violating the Farmland Act, Mountainous Districts Management Act, Livestock Epidemic Prevention Act, or Fisheries Act ▲those who have separated households while actually living together with a public benefit allowance recipient.

For welfare recipients such as ▲basic livelihood security beneficiaries ▲those receiving medical expense support for the near-poor ▲disability allowances ▲single parents ▲the near-poor ▲child disability allowances ▲rare and intractable disease patients ▲recipients of national merit benefits who are farmers or fishers, the recognized income may be included, which could reduce the support amount or disqualify them from eligibility.

The county plans to verify applicant eligibility and conduct a review by the Public Benefit Allowance Committee in mid-next month, and to provide 600,000 KRW (in Wando Love Gift Certificates) to recipients in March. If a recipient is temporarily unable to collect the allowance in person, such as due to hospitalization, a proxy can receive it by submitting a proxy receipt confirmation form, which must be verified by the township mayor, and the allowance can be collected by a direct lineal relative or household member.

A county official stated, "We hope that the public benefit allowance will help relieve the management burden of farmers and fishers and contribute to revitalizing the local economy through the use of local gift certificates."
