Hwang Seon-cheol, the newly appointed Secretary General, born in 1988, is the youngest Secretary General in history. He joined the Korea Music Copyright Association's legal team and has served as head of the broadcasting team and director of Business Division 2, earning recognition for successfully leading copyright negotiations with domestic and international users.
In 2019, he was elected as the first legal committee member from Asia to the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), actively conducting research and policy development on copyright issues related to new technologies such as AI, blockchain, and NFTs. In 2022, he was elected vice-chairman of the CISAC Legal Committee, achieving key results in the international copyright industry.
Recently, he has proactively led various projects addressing major issues in the copyright industry, such as forums to resolve unpaid copyright fees by domestic OTT platforms and public hearings on mandatory AI content labeling, contributing to enhancing transparency and fairness in the copyright ecosystem.
Secretary General Hwang stated, "The current copyright industry faces numerous challenges, including unpaid OTT copyright fees, gaps in rights protection due to AI content, and relatively low copyright revenue compared to the scale of the K-pop industry. I will do my best to resolve these issues one by one and create a fair and rational copyright ecosystem."
Chairman Chuga Yeol said, "We will continue to do our best to improve the copyright system and develop the music industry together with Secretary General Hwang and the association’s talented administrative staff."
