Securing Parking Space Using Vacant Private Land
Guri City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun) announced on the 7th that it plans to focus on the creation of ‘Our Neighborhood Niche Parking Lots’ by utilizing private idle lands such as small leftover plots and vacant lots to secure parking spaces in residential areas and commercial districts suffering from severe parking shortages.
Last September, Guri City completed the Guri Traditional Market 2nd Public Parking Building (383 spaces), and is currently constructing a public parking lot (97 spaces) within Geombaek Neighborhood Park, aiming for completion in December this year. The city has been promoting the installation of public parking lots in phases with the goal of expanding parking capacity by 10,000 spaces.
Additionally, the ‘Our Neighborhood Niche Parking Lots’ project, which is being promoted alongside, can efficiently secure parking spaces with a short construction period and a small budget, overcoming the drawbacks of parking building construction that requires a long time to secure target sites and develop them.
Moreover, the city expects that by converting idle lands, which have been neglected with household waste and overgrown vegetation, into parking lots, it will greatly contribute to improving the urban landscape.
Guri City plans to announce the recruitment of target sites in January, review the feasibility of development, finalize the target sites, and complete the project within the first half of the year through contracts with landowners.
These niche parking lots will be provided as resident-priority parking zones for nearby residents, and landowners who provide idle land will be granted property tax reduction benefits.
Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri City stated, “Through the promotion of this project, we expect to secure parking spaces in residential areas while creating a pleasant living environment,” and added, “We will continue to make multifaceted efforts to solve the parking shortage problem.”
