Manufacturing Process Value Chain Internalization
"Accelerating Expansion of Mobility Hydrogen Storage Business"
Kolon Spaceworks announced on the 7th that its self-developed 54ℓ hydrogen fuel tank has obtained the R134 certification from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN ECE).
The R134 certification is a qualification for selling high-pressure container products established by the ECE, which can only be granted after passing strict safety evaluations such as maintaining tank airtightness during collisions, explosion prevention, and thermal stability.

The hydrogen tank has an internalized value chain covering all manufacturing processes from intermediate material development to molding. The plastic liner, which supports the inside of the hydrogen tank, uses materials developed by Kolon ENP. The composite material intermediate, responsible for the tank's rigidity, also uses 'Towpreg' developed independently by Kolon Spaceworks. Towpreg is a material made by impregnating epoxy resin into high-strength carbon fiber.
Kolon Spaceworks plans to actively enter the mobility sector, including the aerospace and defense industries, based on this certification.
Ansanghyun, CEO of Kolon Spaceworks, said, "This certification is the result of Kolon Spaceworks' mobility hydrogen storage solution being globally recognized for its technological capability and product reliability," adding, "Based on this, we will expand our business portfolio in the overall mobility hydrogen storage field."
