Jongrae Park, President of UNIST, stated on the 7th, “By 2025, UNIST will leap forward as ‘Ulsan’s Stanford,’ a university leading the sustainable development of the nation and the region.”
In a special message to the members on that day, President Park emphasized, “In this era of great transformation, UNIST must become ‘Pioneers’ who open new paths in education, research, and internationalization,” adding, “Securing UNIST’s irreplaceable uniqueness amid challenges such as economic recession and demographic cliff will be the foundation not only for survival but for gaining superiority.”
President Park presented three transformative innovation strategies to realize the vision of ‘Pioneer UNIST.’
First, in the education sector, he said, “We will enhance essential competencies such as artificial intelligence utilization skills and English debate so that students can possess creative insight and integrative connectivity to thrive on the global stage.”
In the research sector, there are plans to advance basic and applied research in a balanced manner and to build a platform connecting regional industries with UNIST’s cutting-edge technologies.
President Park added, “We will accelerate digital transformation, startup cultivation, and technology transfer to ensure that research outcomes are immediately applied in industrial fields.”
Regarding internationalization, he expressed the intention to “expand cooperation with leading domestic and international universities and research institutions, broaden the global research network, and lay the foundation to become a world-class university,” and “lead international joint research in advanced technology fields and contribute to solving humanity’s pressing challenges through UNIST’s research achievements.”
The unique research orientation of UNIST revealed by President Park is summarized as ‘Small Yard High Fence.’
This strategy focuses on selection and concentration in core areas to further strengthen strengths and enhance resilience that is not shaken by external changes.
President Park stressed, “Based on regional roots, we will connect the nation and the world and lead the era of technological hegemony with UNIST’s unique competitiveness and excellence.”
He also stated, “UNIST will establish itself as a ‘Co-Evolution University’ where academia, industry, region, and the world interact and grow together,” emphasizing, “2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the transition to a science and technology institute, making it an important turning point for UNIST’s change and leap forward.”
