Gyeonggi-do Offers 1,330 KRW Refund for Youth Using 'The Gyeonggi Pass' at 3,120 KRW
Youths in Their 20s-30s Receive 30%, Over 40s 20%, Low-Income Groups Up to 53% Benefits
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 7th that the benefits of ‘The Gyeonggi Pass,’ a customized transportation cost support policy for Gyeonggi residents, will also be applied to the section of the Metropolitan Area Express Train (GTX) Line A from Paju Unjeongjungang Station to Seoul Station, which opened on December 28 last year.
The GTX-A line added five new stations this time?Unjeongjungang Station, Kintex Station, Daegok Station, Yeonsinnae Station, and Seoul Station?following the opening of the Suseo Station to Dongtan Station section in March.
The travel time from Paju Unjeong Station to Seoul Station has been drastically reduced from up to 90 minutes using existing public transportation to about 22 minutes, which is expected to improve commuting convenience for local residents and promote regional economic development.
The province will apply the GTX-A fare refund under ‘The Gyeonggi Pass’ for the convenience of residents using the GTX-A line. Young adults in their 20s and 30s can receive a 30% refund, those aged 40 and above 20%, and low-income groups up to 53%.
The GTX-A line fare is 3,200 KRW as the base fare on weekdays, with an additional 250 KRW for every 5 km. Therefore, the fare from Paju Unjeongjungang Station to Seoul Station is 4,450 KRW, but using ‘The Gyeonggi Pass,’ young adults can receive a refund of 1,330 KRW, paying only 3,120 KRW.
Park Nogeuk, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Transportation Bureau, said, “The Gyeonggi Pass is a customized transportation card for residents that allows fare refunds not only for GTX but also for city buses, intercity buses, subways, and the Shinbundang Line. Young adults in their 20s and 30s can receive a 30% refund, and low-income groups up to 53%, so The Gyeonggi Pass will be a great help to Gyeonggi residents using the GTX.”
Meanwhile, all Gyeonggi residents registered as residents in Gyeonggi Province can obtain a dedicated card from a total of 13 card companies (NH Nonghyup, KB Kookmin, Shinhan, Woori, Hana, Samsung, Hyundai, BC, IBK Industrial Bank, Gwangju Bank, K-Bank, Lee Dong-ui Jeulgeoum, DGB U-Pay) and then sign up on the K-Pass website. During membership registration, an address verification process is conducted, and once confirmed as a Gyeonggi resident, The Gyeonggi Pass benefits are automatically applied.
Starting December 23, Gyeonggi Province launched ‘The Gyeonggi Pass Card,’ which applies The Gyeonggi Pass BI (brand identity) to the card design, in collaboration with three card companies: NH Nonghyup Card, KB Kookmin Card, and Shinhan Card.
